Switch in the London Borough of Hounslow
The London Borough of Hounslow is part of Greater London, situated in the West. Switch is a joint project between the Transport Department and Public Health Department, which marks a new way of working in London as promoting active modes of travel has an impact on the health of the public. The Council has published a Corporate Plan for the next 5 years, which includes several key promises, including a cleaner, greener borough and active, healthy communities, which illustrate their commitment to promoting active travel to residents and improving the local community.
Hounslow is involved in the EU Segment project which helped tailor marketing and advertising for specific products such as cycle training to different target groups of people. The Borough committed to a Switch Campaign to involve children and their families at schools in particular across the borough as well as the wider community and reduce short car trips. Hounslow will be measuring the Switch impacts on health and wellbeing, transport, community development and the environment.
The results of a small pilot of the Switch Campaign, with 10 schools, will be published in November 2014 and will inform the roll out of Switch at other schools in the Borough during 2015.
